Roy Lee Payne, (85) of Mineral, VA was born on May 5th, 1940, and died on May 6th, 2025. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne P. Brackett and her husband, John of Rocky Mount, NC, a grandson, Michael Anderson Brackett and his wife Brianna of Boone, NC and a granddaughter, Ashlee Marie Brackett of Burlington, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Fisher Payne, his twin sister, Marjorie P. Will, and his parents Marjorie Jones and Roy Marvin Payne.
He worked for Virginia Trailways for 25 years, was administrator of the Louisa Medical Center for 6 years, was Manager of the Virginia Trailways Credit Union for 10 years, and manager of several home
health agencies. He opened his florist, Ye Olde Towne Flower Shoppe, in October, 1991, and ran it for 26 years until his retirement. The flower shop and the many people that he worked with and served was one of his greatest joys. He served on the Mineral Town Council and served as Secretary for the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was an active member of Mineral UMC and had
been since 1964.
There will be a memorial service at Mineral United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 18th, 2025 at 2 p.m. Donations can be made to Mineral UMC or your favorite charity.
